The School Inspection Service inspects the EYFS in independent schools and where there are free-standing settings associated with schools and registered with Ofsted. The school inspections are carried out in accordance with Section 109 (1) and (2) of the Education and Skills Act 2008. The registered settings are inspected in accordance with sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006. SIS provides schools and settings with a Self-Evaluation Tool (SET) which details all the requirements of the EYFS, enabling them to check that they conform to the requirements. Inspectors use the SET as part of the inspection which then provides reassurance for schools, settings and parents that the EYFS requirements are met. Our inspections also provide an impartial evaluation of the provision so that parents, teachers and other interested groups can be informed of the quality of its work with children.
